History

John and Roula Kosmadakis hail from one of the small villages of Chania City on the beautiful Mediterranean island of Crete. Before establishing John’s Fish Market, John and Roula ran the fish and chip shop across the road from The Beehive. Their shop became a popular spot in that busy political neighbourhood and they served many prominent and well-known customers.

John launched John’s Fish Market in 1997. His son, George, eventually joined the company, and Roula arrived with her fish and chip expertise. She’s ruled the Fish and Chip Counter ever since.

In 2006 John and Roula decided to retire and handed over the business to their children, Vana and George, who have been joined by two business partners, Harry and Jeremy.

Vana heads Accounts, Administration and Retail. She is a wonderful cook, very knowledgeable and keeps everything running smoothly. George and Harry run Wholesale.

Wholesale

Wholesale supply a wide range of businesses from supermarkets, restaurants, bars, cafes, clubs, caterers, and of course, fish and chip shops. The team of filleters is happy to start work at 3am so that the fish is delivered nice and early to wholesale customers.

 

Fish and Chips and Fresh Fish Retail

Our fish and chip shop and fresh fish retail are in an awesome location on Petone's Esplanade, just across the road from the sea. We can watch the fishermen hauling in the nets for us!

 

Today

Wholesale and Retail owners and staff continue the traditions, top quality service and fresh products that the company is renowned for.

But it didn’t take long for John and Roula to miss the company and you will still see them smoking the fish, taking orders and cooking up delicious takeaways.

Well, that’s what makes a family business so successful!
